The OSID-R linear smoke detector is a combined transmitter/receiver unit that can be connected directly to a detector group.
The infrared transmitter generates a beam of light in the direction of a high-power reflector. The reflector returns the beam to the receiver, where an analysis of the received signal is performed and intensity changes are evaluated. The change in the strength of the received signal is used to determine the alarm condition. The receiver section has a wide (12°) field of view and automatically tracks the reflector as buildings move or its support structure moves. Practically it is impossible for the receiver to lose the reflector from its field of view unless the building suffers structural damage. As a result, the OSID-R eliminates the most common cause of false alarms and/or errors. The tracking feature compensates for twisting of substructure when thermal or structural effects are present.
