Fire detection in the Castle Hotel of Münchhausen

Five-Star-Security in a historic ambiance
The castle hotel Münchhausen near Hameln offers five stars for luxury and security. By elaborately renovating this Renaissance castle, which dates back to the 16th century, not only was it possible to preserve this listed building but also implement the most modern means of fire protection while raising the profile of the hotel. The entire property consists of two extensive complexes, the castle and the Zehntscheune. These accommodate two restaurants, numerous guest rooms and suites, the administrative section and kitchen as well as a swimming pool and underground car park. Both monument conservation and varying ceiling heights played an important role when it came to planning and installing fire protection technology. Furthermore, the underground car park and swimming pool required particular attention due to their being located in areas prone to malfunctions and false alarms.
Five fire detection panels belonging to the system 8000 are connected to each other via an essernet ® and therefore protect the entire complex. This constellation means that an overview of all areas can be acquired by all those relief units at a glance should a serious case arise. The technology used guarantees safe and comfortable fire protection in all buildings and has only registered actual events since its initial start-up. By using this technology, the panels can always be extended in the castle hotel as well as in the Zehntscheune.

Top marks for security and visual appearance
The special challenge to fulfil a few requirements in relation to the property of the castle hotel was able to be mastered within a short space of time thanks to elektroma, the specialist installation contractor from Hameln, which is certified with the VdS, both during the planning phase and implementing the ESSER technology. Hence, smoke absorption systems could not be used due to the old structure of the building and the floor plan. That is why point type detectors with different detection principles have now been reliably assigned the task. The detectors, which were selected not least because of their aesthetic appearance, were adapted in terms of colour to suit the ambience. When awarding the order, this decisive aspect resulted in copper-coloured detectors also being installed in the historic Knight’s Hall.
Detection under all circumstances
Extraordinary environmental conditions sometimes require unusual and applicative surveillance measures. The same applies to this case where monument protection made it necessary to lay the cables in a special way. The main cable for monitoring the historical and valuable intermediate ceilings had to be laid in the ground of the floor above.
In order to be able to maintain the detectors that were installed there, special multi-functional review partitions were installed. In order to be able to carry out the extend installation as required, special attention was paid during fire compartment partition so as to enable individual and variable subsequent installation without impairing the substantial, listed design. An innovative expansion of the ring bus configuration in the form of the esserbus®-Plus appeared on the market years ago which, on the one hand, enabled time and effort spent on installation to be kept to a minimum and, on the other hand, offers a few decisive advantages for consultants on the project, specialist installation contractors and not least the end client. This integrative installation facilitates the operation of fire detectors, signallers supplied with bus and other bus stations primarily on two wires certified by the VdS. This ensures that all security requirements relating to a ring bus operation that is short-circuit proof and can tolerate interruption have been fulfilled. The alarm equipment is activated in a synchronous manner, as regulated by Norm DIN 33404, part 3, for alarm equipment.
